Each year Friends of SaddleBrooke Libraries provides the SaddleBrooke community with several informative and entertaining lectures . All are offered free-of-charge to FSL members. Non-members are charged a nominal $5 fee to attend some of the lectures.
Unless otherwise noted, all lectures are held in the MountainView Clubhouse ballroom from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on the third Thursday of the month.
October 15, 2015 … “This Land is Our Land: Arizona Women Who Made History”
Our speaker, provided by Arizona Humanities, will be Jan Cleere, a well-known author and historian. Jan will talk about influential women of pre-statehood Arizona. She is the author of the recently published book Levi’s and Lace which is available through the SaddleBrooke Libraries.

November 19, 2015 … “Cuba Today”
University of Arizona professor Dereka Rushbrooke will share her observations about Cuba and her experiences while traveling there. She accompanies U of A students each summer on visits to Cuba. This lecture is offered jointly with the SaddleBrooke Spanish Culture Club.
Non-FSL members will be charged a $5 fee to attend.
January 21, 2016 … “Southwest American Indian Pottery and Baskets”
Arizona State Museum (ASM) is the oldest and largest anthropology museum in the region (est. 1893), with the world’s largest collections of Southwest American Indian pottery and basketry. FSL’s annual membership kick-off event will feature two renowned speakers from ASM. Andrew Higgins, Asst. Curator of Ethnological Collections, will present the evolution of Southwest Puebloan pottery from the late 19th century to today. Diane Dittemore, Curator of Ethnological Collections, will share Museum’s ethnographic basketry collection, including details about tribal groups, renowned weavers, and colorful background stories that will enhance your appreciation of Southwestern basketry.
